Poems written by Sheila Ann Jaynes
Blessed Indeed
Looking back on my life I feel I was blessed indeed
To be a part of a large and loving family
My brothers and sisters and I we numbered fifteen
A loving mom and dad we were extra close it seemed
Material things we didn`t have many
But when it came to love of that we had plenty
God has blessed us each with families of our own
And today the forth generation is coming on strong
Mom and dad are now in heaven by our dear saviors side
Three brothers and two sisters have since joined them in their new home on high
We think of them each and every day
And are left with an ache in our hearts that will never go away
Looking over the family tree I marvel on how it has grown
All started from a tiny seed that two loving people had sown
And I feel that I was truly blessed indeed
To have been a part of this large and loving family
A Granny`s Prayer
Dear lord I want to thank you for all that you have done
And I want to thank you for my grandchildren each and every one
They have been a light in my life that brightens each day
And the love I feel for them mere words cannot say
All the joy they have given me is hard to put into words
And granny I love you is the sweetest thing I've every heard
So tonight as they lay sleeping please send an angel from above
To watch over and protect these most precious little ones that I love
And I want to thank you for my grandchildren each and every one
They have been a light in my life that brightens each day
And the love I feel for them mere words cannot say
All the joy they have given me is hard to put into words
And granny I love you is the sweetest thing I've every heard
So tonight as they lay sleeping please send an angel from above
To watch over and protect these most precious little ones that I love
Housework
Housework is not a big passion of mine
If I never washed another dish that would suit me just fine
Moping and making beds is a real drag
Dusting is for the birds and cleaning toilets really makes me gag
If I had my way housework would be outlawed
For those who can get out of it I happily applaud
My Miniature Rose Bed
They sleep beneath a blanket of snow
Waiting for the warmth of spring to show
Their beautiful leaves of glossy green
And each tiny bud will then be seen
Each brilliant color of pink, white, orange, yellow and red
Will rise up from where they sleep in my miniature rose bed
And will brighten my days all summer long
From a small plot of earth that is their home
My granddaughter gave me the very first one
I planted it with love but I wasn`t done
I soon added more each one with loving care
And was repaid with beauty that's beyond compare
So now I look forward to the first signs of spring
For the joy and beauty to me that my miniature rose garden brings
My Porch Swing View
Viewing the world from my porch swing I`m in awe at what I see
At all god has created and the beauty that surrounds me
Like the opening of flowers on a lovely spring day
The colors of the setting sun just before it turns to gray
A red robin setting in a tree singing a beautiful song
And butterflies dancing from flower to flower all summer long
A hummingbird or two will join for a taste of the nectar so sweet
Viewing them from my porch swing is such a wonderful treat
The warmth of the sun on a beautiful summers day
And the sound of children in the yard at play
In autumn the mountain are ablaze with colors of orange, red and gold
And with the birds flying south its all a beautiful sight to behold
And on a cold winters day the snow falling softly to the ground
From my porch swing I watch as my world turns white all around
So come rain or shine each day you will find me on my porch swing
Enjoying the world god created I wouldn`t want to miss a thing
Precious Gifts
It was a lovely spring day when you entered this world
I was ecstatic when the doctor walked out and said its a girl
The first time I held you I felt a love like no other
And I gave thanks to the lord for I was now a grandmother
Life as I knew it was changed forever that day
All due to this precious grandchild that god sent my way
The years have flown by your now almost grown
And god has blessed me with six more since you came along
And with each new arrival I gave thanks to above
For gods most precious gifts more grandchildren to love
Thoughts Of Childhood
As I grow older more often I find my thoughts going back to my childhood
To a large family, a home filled with love and to a time when life was so good
And to the small house that sit on a hill that was built by my dads own hands
And to a cellar he craved out of the mountain and today they both still stand
To a small town where I knew everyone and to Sundays when we all got together
After church for a family dinner times just couldn`t have been any better
To early spring morning spent picking blackberries before the sun rose to high,
Then hurrying home so mom could bake one of her most delicious blackberry pie
To warm summer days spent in the yard playing hop scotch, tag, and red rover
Never dreaming that all to soon my childhood days would be over
To riding in the back of a pickup truck to the lake where we would picnic
And long walks though the woods where a bouquet of wild flowers I would pick
And to the cups of hot cocoa mom made that help warm a cold winters night
Surrounded by loved ones feeling safe and secure and that all in my world was right
So more often I find my thoughts going back to those days
Sweet memories from the past that live in my heart, and will always
Thanks Mom
I was only ten when god called dad home
And left mom with seven of us to finish raising all alone
It must have been hard with all she had to bear
But all I can remember is her tender loving care
She did her best at raising us she taught us right from wrong
And taught us to be thoughtful, loving, kind and strong
So today I thank her for all that she has done
For the sacrifices that she made each and everyone
Untamed Flower
Alone I stand among the flowers
Enjoying the sun and the occasional gentle spring showers
My leaves are a lovely shade of green
With my roots planted deep I'm tall, pretty, and lean
You come out to inspect the bed
One glimpse at me, you frown, snarl up your nose and shake your head
Standing there taking in the scene
The beauty I have to offer to you, just goes unseen
You call me an obnoxious invasive weed
Because I didn't germinate from a flower seed
A weed is only a flower that's not yet tame
When will the spotlight shine on me, will I ever get my fifteen minutes of fame
Be Ready
Would you be ready today if tomorrow never came
Ready to face your savior or would your head bow in shame
And when Jesus opened the book of life would your name be written there
And if he couldn't find it would you fall to your knees in despair
We are not promised tomorrow and today may be all that we get
Be ready and if tomorrow never comes then you will have no regrets
Would you be ready today if tomorrow never came
Ready to face your savior or would your head bow in shame
And when Jesus opened the book of life would your name be written there
And if he couldn't find it would you fall to your knees in despair
We are not promised tomorrow and today may be all that we get
Be ready and if tomorrow never comes then you will have no regrets
